Garmin Nuvi 255 with euro maps

I have a Garmin Nuvi sat nav - I'm soon to be going to use it in Europe, do i need to download any additional maps or is it all ready to go?

I have a Tom Tom and I check for updates before leaving for a trip to France, roads do change. I assume it would be the same for Garmin.

Unless it's a new unit, you won't get a free update from Garmin - and see threads elsewhere in this forum for some issues with the paid-for updates.
