as of yesterday you could pre-order one but they werent giving out delivery dates. I have been dealing with tomtom support on an issue with my GO550 and asked them a few questions about the 1000 but they told me they cant answer them as they havent had training and no units have come through for them to look at yet.

So I would suggest it will be a while yet before they hit the street

I just picked up my TOMTOM 1000 today and I am already having an issue. I live in Germany, but I am a native English speaker. I can set the display text to English, but it will not let me select the English voices. The two options are grayed out. When I check the website, it shows most of the functions are not yet available, including the download of voices! I sent TOMTOM a question, but I have been told their customer service is very poor.

If I can not change the language, then I will have to return the unit. I had bought a Garmin 3790T, but I had to exchange the unit since the first one was not good at picking up the satellite signals, and the replacement unit did not power on after I used it a few times. I gave up on Garmin, and I decided to give TOMTOM a try, but it is not looking good so far.

I guess it is not good to be an early adopter!

Ken i fear ur experience as one of the first to receive 1000 may not be unique, hence my thread asking for how people found them

Dare i suggest i ve had very good experience with 2 previous Tom Toms and the service from Amsterdam helpful and friendly .....................so long as u had time to wait !

Good luck either way

Very surprised to see there is no SD slot on this model. How long before the Europe map bloats to over 4GB, I wonder, and forces users to use zoned maps or stop updating their maps.

As has been said in another thread. Any sat nav without a card slot is pretty useless. If TT have omitted the slot in the 1000, that is a step backwards in my opinion. I shall not rush out to replace my 730.

Looking to purchase a 1005 this week, any more feedback from owners?

Is the hands-free system any good?

I was going to order a 1005 from Amazon but cancelled it when the user reviews of the 1000 were so bad, most people were sending them back for a refund.

I've read good and bad things about it, but can't seem to find out about the hands-free.

I would recommend the link below for any queries related to TT, a very knowledgeable bunch of people on that forum.
