Thinking of upgrading to a tomtom 1005, anyone know if a vent mount is available for this model? Also, anyone any experience/advice on alternative mounts? Hate the windscreen mount, would be willing to try a dash or vent mount.

Would really like built in satnav but Merc quoted £2.5k to retro fit:-(

Sounds like an expensive quote. These people http://www.comandeurope.com have a good reputation on the MBclub website. I have not used them myslef, but know other who have.

I have used Brodit Proclip vent mounts, (TT fit) on my previous car a BMW and my current car a Mercedes and have found them to be excellent. Give them a try at the link below.

There is a Brodit style mount for the 1000/ 1005 which includes an audio line out socket but it requires a Mini USB car charger lead as the cable supplied with the 1000/ 1005 has a bespoke multi pin connector on it to fit the device. The brodit mount has the bespoke connector built in. The Brodit style mount requires a Pro-Clip to match your car and a Mini USB charger lead so its not a cheap solution.

A cheaper solution is to purchase the Brodit "Ball" they sell intended for the TomTom iPhone kit and attach the mount supplied with the 1005 to it, this negates the cost of the accessory mount and the Mini USB charger cable, it works a treat in practice.

Have a dig around about the 100x devices though as currently you cannot update maps or install POI's along with a whole raft of other issues - Mike
