Not sure if anyone can help here; I've tried everything that my limited thinking can come up with.

My wife's ONE does not recognise the SD card which stores the maps and all associated data. She left it in the car for few nights when we had the big freeze and although it was fine with no sign of problems now it is SNAFU. It must be a problem with the card though, as the unit operates fine when I put the card from mine in it.

I was going to reformat the card and try to copy from my card but (a) mine is a 1Gb card with European maps and hers is much smaller so it would not all fit, and (b) I think that the maps are some way copy protected. I did try copying to a siilar size SD card and inserting that but neither unit recognises that card at all. Because nothing recognises the SD card I cannot even connect to TomTom HOME - it doesn't think anything is connected to the computer.

I've emailed TomTom Support but I thought that I would see if anyone on here has experienced this before and might have a quicker fix than waiting 48 hours (or much longer due to the bank holiday) for a reply. I've tried for advice at Halfords (where I originally bought the TomTom) but they've not been able to help.

Suggestions?

not much help but your maps wont work on that unit, I've tried that one and it didn't work. Hope you get it sorted ok. Do you not have a backup on a PC?

No, she never backed hers up. I've slotted the Euro maps from my ONE into hers and it does actualy work; but not the copies I guess.

Looks like I'll have to wait to hear from the TomTom Support peeps.

Try the reset button on the TomTom, if that doesnt work try connecting the SD to your computer and retrieve the files off the card using a program called Recova, save the files on your computer and then format the card or get a new blank card and transfer the files back on to the card and see if that works.
If that does not work then I'm sorry I can't help you.

Kevin, I'll look for Recova. I've reset the TomTom to no avail. The SD card at present appears to be empty and in need of reformatting, but maybe the program you suggested will find the files somewhere on it....

Can you get exactly the same SD cards that TomToms use? The same size SD card that I copied the files to (but which doesn't work in either unit) although it fits doesn't have the same profile of connectors. I'm not sure if it is the SD card that is different or simply that you cannot copy the files.

(FFS my wife is continually nagging in my f**king ear while I'm writing this so apologies if it is garbled. Grrrrr I'm doing this for HER, so the bloody gas bill will wait....)

My card works fine in hers, but her SD card is too small to copy the contents of MY SD card to. I tried using a similar size card (fits in the same slot of my card reader) to copythe files to, but although the copy worked neither TomTom will read the card.

I put a larger SD card in mine to store extra routes, speed camera (sorry safety cameras) and a tracking program, I used a standard SD card with no trouble at all.

I just copied all info on the old SD card to the computer (as a back up) then I just pasted it on to the new SD card.

Copying files/ folders from the TomTom to and from the PC is best achieved using Windows Explorer, but if the maps are locked to the SD card (which some are) only the original card can be used.

One option if to start with a blank card inserted to the TomTom, switch the device on before connecting to the PC, then see if Home will let you use the "Update my Go" button it should install the operating software (Navcore), once this is installed you can add a map although that will cost. Try giving TomTom a ring in the morning and ask if a map can be made available via Home due to there being no backup disk supplied with the device, their number is 0845 161 0009 - Mike

Yeah, I'll give them a call. Can't connect to Home without a valid SD card in so I can't even buy/upgrade the maps.

I'll also wander into a Maplins tomorrow as they seem to be pretty all knowing from past experience.
