Probably a real stupid one for you lot in the know, but here goes, I have a pocket pc, ( HP iPAQ ), with tom tom sat nav installed, it's not bang up to date, but it usually gets me to where I need to go, I have just been given a courtesy car, ( renault ), whilst mine is in for repair, it's got sat nav in it,( tom tom ), and has an sd memory card plugged in the side of the unit, now this unit is a lot more up to date than mine, so I thought I would download the info on the card onto my memory card via a docking station for the iPAQ and a card reader for the sd card from the renault.
I forgot to say, I used a 1GB memory card from a camera I have, and I made sure it was completely empty before starting, ( didn't want to do any damge to my current card that I have in the iPAQ ).
It all downloaded ok and I have read what's on the memory card from my iPAQ and it all seems to be there, but, when I insert it into the iPAQ it is saying "no maps", so I thought I would insert the renault sd card into the iPAQ, and this is saying the same thing.
You know what's coming, what do I need to do to fix this, or can I not fix it.
Thanx.

Its not going to work as the maps from the car unit are locked to the device ID of the unit in the car, in addition to this the map data is of a different structure and contains information your PDA based TomTom software won't even understand (IQ Routes_2/ Reality View, Lane Assist and probably a Computer voice system that reads out road names rather than the simple turn left/ right.

At a push you might be able to purchase TomTom Navigator 7 as an application which will come supplied with newer maps than you currently own but they won't be the most up to date, but there is no way of knowing it will work on your PDA prior to purchase.
To be honest look at purchasing Sygic which has up to date maps, a menu system nearly the same as TomTom and should work with your PDA (check the Sygic web site though prior to purchase to ensure compatibility with your hardware) or the Garmin PDA application which is worth considering see http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Garmin/Garmin-Mobile-10.... for further details - Mike
