My Garmin 250W was recalled because of some sort suspected battery problem. Their RMA instructions were to fully discharge the battery before sending it back to them. However I forgot to do this and sent it off nearly fully charged.
The unit was returned yesterday with supposedly a new battery. The decimation accompanying it said it would have no charge and need to be fully charged before use. I switced it on before charging (like you do) and was surprised to see it was almost fully charged (3 bars the same as when it was returned).
I called Garmin and the guy said it was probally due to testing than the battery has a charge in it.
I can help but feel they did not change the battery at all. However they did change the serial number so perhaps I'm just being unfairly suspicious.

Anyone else had a unit returned with or without a charged battery?

Whenever I've bought a new phone iPod satnav etc the battery has always had some charge, normally over half, I believe it's the right way to keep a battery properly.

If they changed the serial number they've sent out a new unit. It's not the one you returned!

I've had a number of issues with the model you have in that it kept routing incorrectly. Garmin sent out another which did the same. They upgraded me to a 1300 as it uses a different software. This too had other issues. I know unbelievable but there you go. Garmin replaced the 1300 with a 1310. The live traffic update, which is Traffic Master side of it, is rubbish though. Garmin have been fantastic with their support both by phone and email through their help desk.

Thanks for replying.
If it's a new unit though it still have the old original maps installed as it is asking me to upgrade to a new set.

Register the unit online with Garmin and see what updates are available. It might be that your 'new' unit predates the latest map or software. I'm afraid I don't really know, but if you call Garmin I'm sure they'd openly discus what they've done or sent you, and what they might be able to do to help you in future?
