I was on my way home last night at a steady speed of about 50mph in my Transporter on a single carriageway (NSL) and was keeping an eye on the car a bit of a distance back. A couple of miles ahead the road climbed uphill with a crawler lane. Rather than sit on my arse like most, the young lad driving timed his approach perfectly arriving just as the lanes opened up.

No big deal, and his driving would go unnoticed by most (as good driving generally does) but; just for a change, feel free to add your own experiences of witnessing good drivingsmile

Too many threads on bad driving in here. Nice to hear about the good stuff thumbup

I was out for a spirited drive on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago. Two cars in front indicated left once to let me know that the overtakes were anticipated and encouraged. Both were safe anyway but cooperation is appreciated.

I had the same last week, I genuinely can't remember the last time someone had anticipated and aided an overtake.

I had a similar drive, where a car following a lorry dropped back so I could take them and then the truck in two steps. Made a great change to being rammed up his behind!

The hard part is closing up into the contact position before the view opens without the overtakee feeling under pressure, when you see oncoming traffic or other hazards that mean you have to drop back to 2 seconds behind.

There are still a good number of competent courteous drivers who make good progress with the minimum of violent accleration cornering or braking, they stick out like a sore thumb among the other sort and a pleasure to observe.

Sometimes when i'm heading down the A43 early hours i'll be approaching the rather small roundabout at the top of the hill after you leave Brackley heading south, not often but now and again i'll be approaching that roundabout in my artic and a car or van makes it obvious he is holding back, sometimes a flash of headlights to confirm but generally not needed as road positioning advertises the intention.

This has two results, it allows me to straighten the roundabout (its tight for even a car and truck to be alongside though the roundabout) so much faster for both of us, it allows the other driver to time a slingshot overtake as he's going faster to start with and number three we've both gone through faster and safer.
The majority sadly haven't got a clue about such cooperation to everyone's benefit.

Without fail i give the courteous out there a wave of thanks and always do my best otherwise to assist if i can their progress, sadly the other sort don't know about courtesy and manners, sad because they cost nothing..

Increasingly i find myself putting my hand up in thanks for others signalling correctly on roundabouts and junctions, so rare has this become, the difference it makes if you can keep 43 tons rolling instead of coming to a halt for no reason whatsover is huge, half the tailbacks at junctions and roundabouts wouldn't happen of people thought a bit more about their driving we'd all get everywhere faster and easier.

I slowed to encourage a driver onto a major from a minor. Shockingly, she waved a "thank you" through her back window. 1st time I had seen this in 15 years, and me and Mrs PA high-fived!!

I was heading north on the A6 and saw a BMW M2 execute a perfect powerslide on full opposite lock going south at the Whaley Bridge roundabout.

Yes, I regularly use this road, and yes, that RB is not exactly artic friendly. I've hung back myself here to give the artic driver space. It's better than having to end up on the grass in the middle of the RB

You are absolutely correct of course! It depends what part of Asia. I added Asia as it is part part of my profile name - I will be more careful in future.. I should not have been so disparaging of the whole area, as many places are very polite behind the wheel.

I am in PH.
