Anyone remember the 760GLE?
Discussion
I have very fond memories of my dads one that he had new in 1989.
When i passed my driving test i was insured in this and for a 17 year old was pretty quick.
I also have fond memories of the steering feel which iirc was better than the saabs that he bought afterwards and also better than any of the BMWs i have had.
I also thought it felt well balanced although suspension was soft and archaic
Good car. Anyone else think the same?

How about the GLT (unsure if it ever officially existed in the UK) - loaded to the hilt. With 240/260 alloy wheels, they looked even better.
They essentially replaced the 200series, which in itself, was a fantastic car but too heavy.
The 700/900 series had masses of presence and the estate a great flat load area.
The interior design seemed to be the basis of the later 800 series cars.
As good as they were - the V70 T5 Phase 1 followed by the 245 GLT were my favourites.
Shame there is nothing in the current Volvo range that excites me...........V70 T6 comes close but auto

I had one about 13 years ago. Bought it from a scrapyard for £100 in near mint condition, just needed a new back box to pass its MOT! Drove it for ages and then sold it for a HUGE profit
I love old Volvos, there's just something really 'right' about them. Great fun to drive, capacious, practical but not overly good on fuel as I recall. Had a P2 V70 since, it was good, but not as much fun as the old GLE.

Remember the joy of putting many cams in the v6 due to wear.
Yep, I think there are a lot of rose coloured glasses wearers on this thread. I fitted 2 lots of cams to V6s that lasted a fortnight! Turned out Volvo had made a whole batch of them and forgot to case harden the surface! That ended up with lawyers being involved and forcing Volvo to pay my labour.
Then there was the atrocious carburettors on the 740. I still have never worked out why these carbs wore out the throttle spindle so badly on this engine because VAG used them on Audis and VWs with virtually no wear problems at all.
Not my cup of tea I'm afraid; but then I had to work on them.

They very briefly sold the unpopular 740glt 16v - fitted with the lovely sounding 160bhp DOHC 16v red block b230 - bit gutless at low revs but when they sound so sweet it's criminal not to rev the tits off them. They were never as good an all rounder as the turbo and so didn't really sell well - consequently they are now very rare They essentially replaced the 200series, which in itself, was a fantastic car but too heavy.
