850 TDI starting running problems

Hi, my Tdi has been a pain to start lately, worse when warm, cranks over coughs splutters etc, after high speed run and letting it go on overrun engine hesitates cloud of smoke then picks up. Had new turbo recently poss wastegate issue????
Had dynamic timing checked, no fault codes.
Any ideas?
