My Volvo dealer doesn't want to sell me a car

Went for a test drive in an XC40 T5 last weekend and since we aren't happy with our Cupra Formentor , decided to go back into a Volvo again. Been chasing the dealer all week to discuss and I am sure that because of the discussion with my wife, after eventually speaking to them , they dont want to sell the car to us. We have bought from the same dealer before and the same guy It sort of went like this.
Wife ' Hi Martin, we are interested in buying the white XC40 T5'
Martin the sales guy ' No problem. Let me sort the finance out for you on the car'
Wife ' Oh, that's not needed as we are paying cash for it'

From then on, radio silence. Seems that because we don't want to pay for finance, they would rather keep it to sell to someone who will buy it on silly APR.

Its been a bit frustrating as we had the same issue with the Cupra and every dealer is selling finance rather than 'allowing' buying outright, which is what we want to do. The sales guy stared at us as if I had just murdered his family.
Is this the thing nowadays that as its more money making for them and the lack of cars they would rather hang onto them ?

There will be someone along more knowledgeable than me, but I guess it's because they get a good kickback off the finance company.

An often stated way round this is to buy it on the finance and then pay it off straight away. I'm not sure how feasible this is to do in reality.

With a 50% deposit.

Buy it on finance, clear the balance within a few days.

Read the small print carefully and make sure there's no early repayment penalty clause though.

i'm not sure they legally can, but yes, worth checking the paperwork. Might be a few days interest. Though a relatively small early repayment penality might be worth it.

They often make more commission on the finance than the car, so buy it on finance, which should also get you a discount, then pay off the finance. At most you might need to pay the first month, but just check the small print.

As above, buy on finance but SETTLE WITHIN THE COOLING OFF PERIOD, it will cost a few days interest.

My car (not a Volvo) was bought on finance some years ago, the dealer wasn't interested in cash. There was 0% interest and no charges so I just paid it all off a week later.

Its looking like the car is not on their listings now. Seems pretty frustrating. We are sending the Cupra back to Cupra Birmingham to resolve the issues we have with this and then we can look to sell it and run in a dealer and not move until a deal is done next time.

This explains a lot. Trying to upgrade my v90 with cash difference. Never met a more disinterested set of salesman as Volvos, maybe they're all pissed off as Volvos sales model is moving away from showrooms. Last salesman spend more time selling me GAP Insurance, alloy wheel insurance, interior guard etc than the bloody car!

I bought from Volvo Braford last month and they were excellent to deal with.
They supplied a finance quote and when I went with my own finance they didn't worry. No hard sell at all.
