XC60/90 - reliability issues?

Hi all - quite new to Volvo's so looking for advice.

Hunting around for the wife's next bus, the Kodiaq was top of the list but after visiting the local ovlov dealership she has kind of fallen for the XC60/90. I think the seats did it!!

I've admired the cars in the past but always steered clear due to hearing a lot about issues and the high cost of repairs. From the experience on here, is there anything I should look out for or models to avoid? Budget will get us a 2019/20 car, ideally a smaller engined version. My preference is for a v90, but she's not keen and wants SUV ride height.

I can only speak from my experience - we've had two XC60s (2011 and 2013) and an XC90 (2018) and they've pretty much all been perfect.

Apart from routine servicing we've not had to spend anything on them which is why we've stuck with the brand.

100k miles in our mk2 XC90, and nothing really to speak of other than routine servicing.

The battery needed replacing a couple of years ago, but that's about it from memory.

Do the sums on engine flavour. The diesels are ULEZ compliant (our 2016 car certainly is) and for our use is the most economical option.

The XC60 is a lot smaller inside.

Nothing beats them for family wagon duties. (We've had a mk1 and a mk2, owning them since 2011). One telling thing for me is a lot of the mums at my kids' school have ditched JLR products for them.

Thanks. They do look perfect for family bus duties. The only issue is the the XC60 is maybe a little too small but ok for most trips and the XC90 is just huge and a bit of a worry for here down narrow roads. Good to hear that they've been on the reliability front.

Got a 2021 XC60 B5 (petrol) - bought new, been faultless (22K miles so far) - very comfortable, and so far has averaged 37mpg, which for something that weighs 2 tons and has the aerodynamics of a house brick, is frankly nothing short of amazing!

An excellent vehicle

2017 XC60 D5 here. 40k miles and no issues. 37 mpg.

We live rurally and the roads here are very narrow in places, and pretty crap surface wise nearly everywhere.

You get used to the size of the XC90 very quickly.

The 360 camera is probably useful for car parks etc (ours only has the reverse camera, but all round sensors which work well).

There have been quite a few threads recently on other worthwhile options.
