XC40 reversing lights

I recently bought a 2018 XC40 T4.
really like the car but the reversing lights are rubbish. I thought they weren't working but checked and they are definitely on but don't really illuminate enough to reverse confidently in the dark using the door mirrors.
My previous V60 was fine for this.
Any other XC40 owners experienced this or found a solution?
