Any fellow PHers got a Polestar 2?

I am looking at possibly a 3 or 4 year old one. Good idea, bad idea, any things to think about or features to have or avoid?

Many thanks

Had one for 3 and a half years. Did 40k in it. Really liked it and nothing went wrong with it. Only changed it to upgrade to a 4.

Thanks for that. Can I ask, was it the Long Range version? If so what, roughly, were you getting?

Not too fussed, as only do about 3 journeys per year over 250 miles and we always stop, anyway.

I've just bought a Polestar 2 - 2023 Long Range Single Motor with 40k / one business lease owner / full service / immaculately presented / £17.2k.
I've not got any "packs", which many seem to say are essential. For me the 'base model' has everything I need. To get one with any packs was +20k miles or £2k cost.
It's lovely to drive. Range home from buying it, on a -1 raining and snowy, windy Nottinghamshire to Stirling, was 250miles...
You need the Polestar App, the Polestar Energy App, your charger App and probably energy supplier App. And to wrangle them all to set them up...
You can attach seat position and user profile to different keys or mobile. Learning how to open and close/lock on proper contactless is easy. Headlights are superb. Windscreen wash is great on wipers.
I'm currently still loving it - 6 weeks in and it's saving a fortune in petrol, is comfy, good stereo, carries myself, wife and adult sons on occasion, everything 'just works'.
Only things I can moan about:
- it feels 5cm wider than it needs to be.
- mirrors are small
- no rear wiper
- rear headroom is snug for one of my lads at 6'3"...
- frunk opening is just daft place - hangover from bonnet release.
- usb-c are positioned oddly.

No, mine was the first single motor, standard range model, a 22 plate. I personally wouldn’t buy one without the Plus pack.

I’ve got a 24 plate LRSM with plus pack on a lease which I got a good deal on at the 74 plates had been released. 29k miles in 18months. I do a 120mile round trip commute ~3times a week which is mostly m25.

I occasionally get an auto-headlights (full beam) not available warning, and occasionally have the restart the infotainment to get it to connect to CarPlay.

It’s fast, comfy, easy to park with reasonable visability plus all the cameras.

I sat in both a standard and plus pack car and preferred the extra adjustment on the seats in the plus pack car. I like the panoramic roof too, but do sometimes wonder how well insulated it is compared to a standard lined metal roof and whether that effects how hard the heater is working, and therefore range in the winter.

Don’t forget that the heat pump is part of the Plus pack.

We already have an EV and 7kw charger. We are woth IOG, which my wife's car will still use. I will probably just use a granny charger and program the car for an overnight charge as I only need to do about 10 miles a day, nornally.

Got one in May, '21 LRDM, thumbs up from me.

My winter motorway range is c.190 miles at a fairly constant 70mph in zero degrees C, longer in summer obviously. EV-database quoted real ranges seem about right.

Specs by year (from the owners club on FB):

We had one for four years. A 2021 Long Range Dual Motor with plus and pilot

Not brilliant to be honest, but generally OK. The main problem is the Volvo dealers.

We had some sort of water pump replaced early on; I think there was a recall for this.

The driver's side heated seat also broke four weeks before the warranty ran out, luckily.

Ours really didn't like public charging. I don't really know if this was the chargers or the car, but we got left stranded for around an hour waiting for recovery, only to try it one last time, and for whatever reason, it just started working again.

Charging speeds were OK, around 30 minutes for 100 miles added on a run, and on the motorway, the range is less than 200 miles.

When you look at them, make sure the BS range mode is off. I can't remember how to do it, but have a look at the range assistant on the main screen, as it will give you a wildly optimistic range on the dash if not.

Winter range also gets smashed. Ours should have had a heat pump, but I have a feeling it was never fitted. When it went back, it showed as fully charged, with a range of 190 miles.

To add another reference point on range, my '24 LRSM will do ~240 in the winter of motorway with cruise control @ 78. And close to 300 in the summer for the same.

Common issues are driveshaft CV boots splitting, which can then wreck the CV joints if left long enough, and front strut top bearings cracking, resulting in a front end knock or rattle over bumps.

Thanks Basil, similar to a lot of cars, like my XC60.

I've had a Aug 23, 24my lrsm (rear wheel drive -;one of the first ones) with plus and pilot for 2.5 years as a company car, and am hitting 30k miles. It's been faultless.

Very seriously considering a 2024 car with at least plus as a replacement as I'm currently handing it back at the end of may due to redundancy. I've had 330+ miles on the motorway in summer, and 280. In winter in Cumbria.

The plus gives better seats, the heat pump, the pan roof and the uprated stereo along with a few other things - they are noticeable and worth having.

They share a lot in common with the xc40, so suspension issues will be common. I can second the Volvo dealer downsides.

I have a few months left of my lease on a 2023 model with all packs and have covered about 30k in that time. I'd consider it the best daily I've ever had.

About a month after getting the car, it had a software fault which needed Polestar/Volvo to come out as it wouldn't move at all. They couldn't find an issue, it reset overnight and has never happened since. Other than that it hasn't had a single fault in the time I've had the car although the infotainment is getting slower over time.

I think the Plus pack makes it feel much more premium so would be a no brainer for me. I like the 360 camera on the pilot pack but don't tend to use the Pilot/ semi self driving much. Note that some cars (including mine) from around 2023 had Pilot Lite fitted due to parts shortages which doesn't include the matrix headlights.

The performance pack just makes it look nicer IMO. I've had passengers complain about the ride being too firm on the 20s with Ohlins so if this is a concern, I'd go for the 19s and non performance (although the 469PS is nice...)

I'm onto my third set of tyres already but again, I think this is only an issue with the performance pack which has different rubber fitted.

As an overall experience I'd definitely recommend one and I suspect I'll be on the market for the next gen version in a couple of years

Does it? I wasn't aware the seats in cars with the Plus Pack were any different from those without it - or are you just referring to what the seats are trimmed with rather than the seats themselves?

Also, as has been posted earlier, what was included in the various packs has changed slightly from model year to model year. For example, the Plus Pack included the heat pump and Harman Kardon sound system for the 2024 Model Year but both were removed for the 2025 Model Year - so if there are particular options you want you just need to double check whether the pack on the car you're looking at includes those features!

Good to hear about the experience with your car though. I'm quite fancying a secondhand Polestar 2 - was thinking of the dual motor version but I suppose for a given outlay you can come a bit newer and lower mileage with the long range single motor and still have a car that's more than quick enough most of the time?

Yeah, the actual seat is different, both in construction and material finish. Plus pack seats have full electric adjustment with memory, 4-way lumbar support, and leg extensions.
