I have a 2013 V40 D3 so I'm not a Volvo newbie - I've been after a D4 for a while and one has come up near me and I'm going to look at it tomorrow or Friday but I know little of the auto box. I know to check for history and what to look at generally but is there anything I should check for

What auto box is it likely to have too? Google suggests it should be the Geartronic box which is more reliable, but it'd be handy to know things before I see it

There's a manual near me too, but that's older...

I've been lurking a while too biggrin

Depending on its mileage the cambelt is either due next year or 90k, budget around £850/£900 if you include the aux belt and tensioner

Gearbox is most likely the powershift box, so due a service every 37k I think

Thanks for that - I'm not sure I'll be looking at it because I got a bit of an uneasy feeling about it; she was selling it, but her dad was storing it as she "had a car on her drive" and I needed to talk to him about it. Plus I asked when the gearbox was last serviced and it's been radio silence since.

There's a slightly older manual D4 near me that I think I'll look at instead smile

I'm pretty certain the V40 D3 hasn't got the power shift box, as I recall it was only fitted to the D2 engine for a certain period. My late C30 D3 had a conventional auto.
