Good first car?

Hey.

I'm at that time were I'm about to buy my first car. I've been looking at the S60 saloon (2.0T).

Im 21 going on 22, although this will be my first car, i have driven my family's cars for 3 or so years (since i passed my test). Which 2 of have been volvo's (850 T5, S80). I need something that can cruise on motorways, and fit a fair share of paintball gear into.

What do people think, would this make a good first car?

all that scares me are if something goes wrong (seen some big bills come in for the T5 while my dad had it), but the draw of the volvo is strong because they are so nice to drive

I've never found Volvo parts prices too bad to be honest, if you think you'll be using Volvo themselves for parts and servicing then it's worth joining the Volvo Owner's Club as most places offer discounts. I also got an insurance discount last year using my VOC membership, but this year Chris Knott don't seem interested in trying to beat Norwich Union's quote.

As far as which one you should get, well I'm biased, but if you're more interested in the newer cars you can't go too far wrong with a Phase 2 V70 as they'll always hold their value better than a saloon equivalent (S60/S80 or whatever).

I think it'd be worth you taking some out for a drive, if you find the S60 has nothing over the 850/S70 models that you need then I'd say save the money and buy an older car.

Like I say though, it depends exactly what you want.

i have found genuine volvo spares very reasonable tbh

those S60 2.0T are a cracking car and a brilliant choice

I had an 850 Estate (T5) when I was 18, after driving my parents 850 T5 since I was 17. Later, I had an S60 D5 when I was 20 through to 23.

The only issue for a 'new' driver would be the size (which is only an issue for the first few driveS), but as you've driven family cars before I doubt this will be an issue for you.

Servicing / parts prices are very reasonable.

my second car was volvo s60 t-5 followed by a d5 185bhp s60, i am under 30. big bills but always went volvo garage, could be cheaper with an indie. but great cars imo. both cars ran over 100k without major problems.
