For some reason I have decided to get back into scale models. I want an RC plane as I haven't had one before, and another RC car, but what I want to discuss now is static kits.

I have never built one properly, but now that I'm older (I wouldn't say wiser wink), I really fancy building a whole garage's worth...

What is the best scale and manufacturer to go for, to have the best detail/availability compromise? Are different manufacturers that different, wrt the finished article?

I'd like to build Le Mans cars, from mid 80s to today, and ideally build a bit of a collection which looks "proper", so I'd want them all to be the same scale and quality. Eventually I might even like to create a diorama(sp?) with pit building and vehicles and such (I can be sad like that). So I don't want to start on the wrong foot...

I really enjoy building stuff so I don't want to just buy diecast, for example.

Thanks!

I think you may find your future is brought to you by the word 'Tamiya' and the scale '1/24th'.

I thought this might be the answer. I have noticed it seems to be where the most models are...

For the '80's Le Mans cars I'd go with Revell rather than Tamiya. Firstly they are a bit cheaper, and for a beginner they are easier to build becasue they have no engine detail and have simple body shapes. I've yet to see a poorly built example of the Revell Jagermeister Porsche. I've got the Kouros Sauber in the stash, but they also do the Rothmans Porsche:

That blue on the Sauber looks a bit familiar smile

All of those kits look good and having just completed a Revell 1:24 Formula 1 Sauber I can agree that the quality is very nice.

A good "garage" size too.

Have fun thumbup
