Right, I can keep this fairly short and sweet.

Basically, I have a GV Models Rex-X nitro off-road buggy. It runs a .25 engine, which, when running, is fantastic and propels the car to at least 45mph+.

It will not, however, start. It used to be a pull start, but when that became particularly problematic, I called in some help and swapped this for a drill-start. This worked better at first, and last summer I used it a few times with this drill start, however it was by no means easy to start still.

Just today, I have used a fully charged drill start, a fully charged glow igniter. I cleared out all of the fuel, and replaced it with new stuff that's been in the garage and sealed over the winter as opposed to what has just been sitting in the tank. I blew on the pipe on the exhaust to prime the engine and push the fuel into the carb. I then tried to start it. The drill start would easily turn the engine over and it would do this very quickly, but the engine made absolutely NO effort to fire whatsoever. It didn't try to so much as once over the course of about 2 minutes of actual 'drill-time'.

I tried taking the glow plug out and using the igniter on it after a while, and the glow plug, which was slick with fuel, sure enough gave off some vapour as the fuel burnt away. It was also absolutely bright and glowing well. I replaced the glow plug, having tightened it to the fullest and then loosened it ever so slightly, as I was informed to once. Still absolutely nothing. I tried it with the electrics on and off (on means the throttle is barely open, off is about half) as the controller needs batteries anyway. I only wanted to be able to start it and let it idle for a while today.

I would greatly appreciate any help. In the past I have tweaked the needles, BUT and I stress this, it helped the car at the time and it ran well. Therefore I can't see as though it'd be a disadvantage. However I would like to find out the original needle setting to set them to that and try it from there. If anyone could find these on the internet they would be much loved, as I can't find a guide for the damn car anywhere!

Thanks for reading this novel of frustration, and I hope you guys can share some thoughts!

Matt

Are you using fresh fuel or old stuff thats been floating around for a couple of years?

I used to find that glow fuel that was a couple of years old the methanol tended to evaporate over time and leave too high an oil content for my old kyosho mantis to start properly.
