Brake discs/wheels

Something I've been noticing lately with my kits is that because of the way the wheels are designed, the brake discs sit right back from the wheel.
This is the kit I completed most recently, and the brake discs just look odd, the way they're so far back from the wheel. The two kits I'm currently working on also look to work in the same way.
Does anyone have any advice for fixing this, making it look a little more real? The brake discs on the RX-7 were incorporated into the suspension, but the Evo I'm working on at the moment has them floating free.
