Selling a Collection, best way?
Discussion
Any recommendations on selling a model collection, I have several hundred die-cast, plastic and rc Ferraris that have been languishing in my loft for the best part of 10 years, most are boxed ranging from cheap matchbox knock offs to Red-Line and BBR items, I really can't be bothered listing individually on eBay with all the hassle of shipping and would rather sell as a single collection or as a few collections (I could do something 1:18 cars excluding F40s, 1:43 cars excluding F40s and F40s (I collected more F40s than anything else)). Other than the usual suspects of Gumtree, Loot and eBay, any suggestions on where to get the best price?
In today's market place eBay really is your best option, though you'll make more selling as individual models. Job lots will always go for less in most cases. It's funny how users of eBay react to listings, I was selling off some models recently and I put a postage charge of £5 (to cover royal mails charges) and they were not selling, even though I'd put them up starting at 99p!!! So I changed my tact and put them up for free delivery but started the bidding at £6 and they all sold with lots of bidding on them so I made more than expected (still way below original retail price).
Unless you have something very exclusive or rare, then don't expect to get much for them I'm afraid
It's the nature of the business.
Although eBay has been good for some sectors, I personally I think it's done more damage than good for diecast in some respects, but that's a whole different discussion...

I have got a huge collection of models, books & car mags to get rid of as SWMBO wants them gone asap.
Got around 1000 model cars (i think) & car mags dating back to god knows when.
Advertised them on PH & didnt get any interest at all so put an advert on fleabay. One joker, once he had seen what i had got, offered me £200 for everything!!!
Told him to get stuffed as my copy of Driving Ambition (the McLaren F1 story) is wortH over £150.00.
Choices i have are limited to giving them away - SWMBO suggestion - taking a table at a swap-meet (not sensible unless you know the market) or putting them up for auction which is a risk as i dont know the value of the models or the books.
Its a tough one as i dont know what they are worth or how to get rid of them for the best possible price.

Pick out the ones you know will fetch a bit and list them separately on Ebay with a low start.
Batch up the rest and list them with a very low start. Charge sensible but not extortionate postage charges.
If that's too much of a fag then take them to a charity shop, many of whom will auction them. Choose a charity you want to support.
If that sounds like too much work, either bin them, put them back in the loft or get an other half who doesn't want to change bits of you
