I went to get some paints for the XJR8 kit I just got given, came out with various tools and a Revell SLS! My conclusion is, shops make it too easy to spend too much money by offering tempting things and as such are evil. biggrin

Pics to follow...

Out of interest, did you buy the Tamiya "Lavender" Spray paint for any bits the decals don't cover? I think they formulated it especialy for Silk Cut purple for their XJR9.

I got some purple to mix with red, and will try to match the right shade... I couldn't find a shade close enough as standard.

Not sure if you're aware, but acrylics can be a sod to brush paint. If you've not got an airbrush, enamels are the way to go.

Cheers

I'll be honest, I wasn't aware of that. I didn't find it too bad on the Porsche, as it was all small bits. The next two will all be small bits as well, so I should be OK. I did buy a can of Tamiya red spray paint for the body on the SLS. Anyway, pics:

Jaguar XJR8 Sprint version:

Mercedes SLS impulse purchase:

I blame the impulse purchase on the guy who drove one past me in one as I was making my way to the shop to buy paints. He gave it a bit of throttle off a roundabout, and the noise it made, accelerating, then popping and banging when he lifted off was incredible... I had been looking at that kit for a while, I just had to indulge! hehe

That's...odd: box lids must have got mixed up. Don't suppose your missus noticed the other version on the shelf did she??

For the shell I'd go for Halfords sprays: white plastic primer and appliance gloss white - in *very* thin coats.

Yeah they must have... However the clear sprue contains the headlight covers for both types, so it is clearly a very similar kit. She got it off eBay, I don't think the seller realised there was a difference!

Agreed, that's what I did for the Porsche, and the finish was good.

Have fun! It's a great kit.

Right, who bought the Hasegawa Silk Cut XJR8-LM off eBay tonight? I thought I had it in the bag, as there was no activity on it at all, only for someone to place a sneaky bid 6 seconds from the end... Unless it was shill bidding as they probably didn't want to let it go for £8. Still, I'm a bit gutted.
