Model Shows/Exhibitions?

Does such a thing as a model car show exist? I'm not into modelling myself however recently I've been looking at model shows. My girlfriends son is into model trains and that seems to be well catered for I recently took him to a general model show as a surprise treat (did well in his exams) But this turned out to be military orientated (unsurprising I suppose as it was in a military museum) As a petrolhead I could get into model car shows but they don't seem to be catered for I would enjoy a car section at a show how about a model car/scalextric/RC car section.

P.S. I'm thinking of doing a model kit to while away the long winter evenings

There is one in derby I think , but it is earlier in the year. I have never been but suppliers send tickets.
Alternatively if you find a show , I should be able to get free tickets for it. Let me know
