We all had toy cars as a kid! Who made the best ones? And what was your favourite?

Where's Dinky?

I insist you add Dinky to your poll now.

Had one of these Corgi booster things which sent the cars round a loop the loop track as a kid, so I'd say Corgi. smile

Matchbox, without a doubt.

Even at 6 I knew Hot Wheels were ste. There was absolutely no call for a big wheel/small wheel combo on a fire engine.

My favourite childhood toy.

No. I didn't have any brothers, this was all mine.

I had one of those too! And the two brown plastic towers biggrin

In the '60s Dinky seemed to be fading and Corgi was the brand to have. Still have a boxful in the roof, including some 'Golden Jacks' variants which allowed you to take the wheels off cloud9

Then Hot Wheels (low friction, hard wheels, very thin axles) came in and speed and bling seemed to replace detail and quality.

Matchbox , Corgi and Majorette. No particular favourite.

Had boxes full. I used to try and buy everyday cars and avoid the Porsche , Ferrari etc... Cars.

Majorette were very good at casting everyday cars.

I never had many of these, but they were clearly the best. I remember spending days poring over a Siku catalogue I once acquired. Everything was exotic and different, like how German police cars looked funny with green stripes!

My faves were Matchbox. I still have loads and i have passed them down to my son. Better quality than some of the cr@p sold today.
Oh and most of them say "made in england" on them which makes me proud that we used to produce something years ago.

Another thing i liked about matchbox is the superkings used to have bouncy suspension travel. cool

Without a shadow of doubt, a German firm called Schuco. I had (still got 'em)

They were metal, had clockwork engines, proper working differentials, proper working suspension with springs and dampers. Beautifully engineered.

Siku for me, but I probably got the most out of a Matchbox 'Powertrack' set with cars that had electric motors.

Edited to add: Matchbox Scorpions after a quick Google.
