I don't know much about models, but I remember my Dad telling me he used to lust after a Pocher kit.

What kind of money can you spend on a model car?

Look forward to the gratutious picture fest this may turn out to be.

Depends what you mean by model? Working large scale? Small scale but best detail or just most expensive?

No rules guys. Kits, scale models, ready made, etc! As long as its some kind of model...

I would have to say that this would be my choice of best - but will never be for sale, I hope!

It is a contemporary model of the 100 gun ship Prince, 1670 (The model was made in 1670, too!) and is 1:48 scale - huge! To me, it is priceless.

Astonishing that it's survived - or has it been restored over the years?

If we are talking about cars, then I have a small collection of these:

I also like the Exoto stuff but the quality and attention to detail of the CMCs seems marginally better.

Not 100% sure, but I think it hasn't had too much restoration work, and it is displayed more or less as was built 340 years ago - perhaps some masting and rigging may have needed attantion - although I could be wrong.

Chris,
you're not wrong, the rigging would certainly have needed extensive work and the fabric on the flags looks crisp with no colour fading at all.

It's all about the environment when displaying these models and that is a custom built showcase with no visible conditioning equipment. Additionally the light level is far too harsh and there's sunlight streaming onto the showcase front and interior which would make for temperature changes outside the parameters of conserving aged timber and fabric.

The glass should be ultraviolet protected, but it appears to have a green tinge to it which leads me to believe it's standard plate or laminated.

I always wanted a Pocher kit too, but having read some online articles it seems they are not particularly good in terms of the amount of fettling you have to do to get things to fit. The later models were the worst: the Ferrari Testarossa looks to be an incredibly bad model.

ETA if I had the money, I'd have one of these in a glass case:

Built to an incredibly high accuracy, served a useful purpose - infinitely nicer to beold than a diamond encrusted Lambo IMO. The Red Bull wind tunnel model I saw on a recent factory tour would do just fine thanks.

A whole-hearted vote for this from me. A 0.1-litre flat-twelve with gearbox - and it all works. Extraordinary.

This one's for sale if anyone's interested laugh only joking

I have to agree, that Ferrari, although a labour of love rather than a commission would have to be my choice. He said, when the program was made, he was going to sell it to fund his next project and I wonder what that was and how much it sold for if he ever did

Well, this costs you 800K (of Veyron) and then the 8K on top to get the model made, exactly like your Veyron. Unless you get a SS, then its 2million plus 8K..

The company who builds the models are based In Bristol. Amalgam http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=a... I have delivered there, Asked If I could see some of the work, But they were very snooty. So Obviously working on something Interesting biggrin

Still after a 1:18, or 1:12 model of a 911 in Viper green - budget of £100.
