I may be able to help a bit, used to race them (had 3 cars!) sold 2 of them on now, but kept my Tamiya Mini.

Best car to start out on is the Tamiya TT01. Very simple mechanics, loads of parts readily, just beware on all these sorts of cars that the plastic parts wont last, if you crash (you will...a lot biggrin) they break easily, and they do melt with use. Best option is to change up to alloy parts, more expensive, but lighter and durable.

At some point you may want to increase power. If it is an electric race car then you will want to get a lower turn engine, and also to prevent it overheating you will need to get a new fan of some sort, i built an electric fan into mine and ran it off the battery.

Also tyres, make sure you geet approprate ones ie for indoor and outdoor use.

Not really sure if thats the sort of info you wanted, if need more info dont hesitiate to contact me smile

Now I want to get my car out!

Not meaning to sound harsh, but are you any good? It took me over a year of racing every week before I gained any form of sponsorship.

What exactly are you after?

I am unable to sponsor you but

I have a couple of TVR Tuscan 1/10 body shells(although these are not the best shells for racing , need Mazda 6 or Dodge or were) which I think still maybe BRCA legal(painted in the same design as we used to run our TVR Tuscan Challenge Cars and a couple of Sagaris shells which are 200mm wide, ok for club but illegal for BRCA events

I could possibly sort you a car out from some old spares I have. Depends on where you are racing and what you are aiming to do (nationals or club racing) whether it will be any good or not

We have not raced touring cars for a few years now so we are not up to date with speedos and batteries etc (we run nitro off road now)

Drop me a mail

Matthew my son is up to the b/c finals in the stcc series last year.We want to get a sponsor and get 3/4 drivers with experience to help the team.Looking to run a serpant chassis maybe.Looking for a company to help us ,we could have there names on our t shirts etc.

Hi Colin,

I'm glad it's the STCCC as I have experience with that series. We currently sponsor a couple of drivers in the 13.5 class and 21.5 class.

With the exceptions of the absolute top drivers (and I'm not talking Malcolm, Tim, Darren etc..) most drivers will be sponsored to the extent that they get their cars at parts at a reduced cost, or possibly trade price.

The EWS series is looking very strong and probbaly the ideal series for him to get some results.

The biggest issue that I see is that you want a Tuscan race team, but as mentioned previously that will not be competitive. Sponsorship from our perspective is purely business. I need to see a top driver with my company on his bodyshell, discussing and promoting our products in the pits and being a benefit to the company.

To put this in perspective, when we launched new cells this year I loaned a couple of sets to Tim Hancock and Mark Trinder. They set new track records in 13.5 and 21.5 respectively and we sold all that we had.
When the Corally Red motor won the 21.5 at STCC Mike sold out in minutes.

I hope I havent sounded negative, obviously I have taken the time to write this and am happy to help where I can but i thik starting a new team is a major ask.

Sounds like your best bet may be some fundraising events.

I dont mean to be rude mate but you are running before you can walk. Your going to struggle getting a sponsor if hes only getting in the b / c finals at the stcc. What are you going to offer the company in return ? Its not like people will rush out and buy something because of a result like that.

The best thing to do is learn about driving and set ups. Talk to people in the pits etc genrally people are pretty friendly and will help you out. Present yourself and the car well and people will notice.

I used to be sponsored but ive not raced for 3 years now ( starting a family stopped it ) took me a long time and some good results to get to that stage. Its not all that being sponsored anyway tbh. Just costs a bit less.

It seems to me the best thing you can do is make your own team. Get a few lads to join up make your own t shirts etc. Get friendly with your local model shop normally they are the first ones to sponsor a driver and possibly get a bit of discount.
