Not been into these for maybe 20 years - back ten has a modified monster truck great fun.

Am now getting an itch to get another RC - I guess it would be off road so could use it in the garden or anywhere rather than only in the smooth Tarmac.

When I last used them Nitro was the way to go for ultimate speed however is that still the case - someone mentioned in passing Nitro is dead brushless is the way now with Lipo batteries replacing the old Nicads.
The age old issue I had is 3 batteries max 30 mins of flat out fun has anything changed?

Don't want to spend heaps at all happy to buy used but want to know what I should go for - I do want FAST but not unusable fast.... Or maybe I do want that ability.

Any pointers or any of you with kit you no longer use fancy off loading PM me. Thanks

Brushless are way to go, and lipo too. but you need buy special charger that can charge lipo too. (they need battery balancing) brushless are way way faster than nitro. and very low maintaine too.

I always wanted a petrol but the maintenance hassle etc and the huge noise meant I never got one.

I'd be after buying ideally used with all the chargers for Lipo - or if there is a cracking special deal on a new one great.
I'd never use it to compete just for fun probably never with another RC car. Would want to do jumps burnouts etc a blast - oh would want durable as no doubt I'd smash full speed into a tree

I bought a cheap chinese brushless/lipo and it is mentally fast. Unfortunatley Just like the 80's it ends up breaking something every time i use it.

The age old saying ..... Buy cheap buy twice...

I guess if I could buy two used examples for £100 and then use one as a donor I wouldn't care much

What are the brands I should consider and what are the exact models I should consider ... I'm feeling like a little boy in a candy store but want to get the best all rounder I can from my pocket money

This almost sounds like a foreign language!! I've just sold a couple of my old RC cars that I found during the house move.
I expect to look at Modelsports website and there be no difference to what they used to be. An updated RC-10, a new Schumacher CAT, electronic speed controllers maybe a bit smaller and squeezing more mahr from a ni-cad!!

I wouldn't know where to start!!

What is a lipo?

From the research I did, the best all rounder (off-road, does jumps, works well on tarmac, very very fast, lots of upgrades if that's your thing, fully waterproof so all weather use and puddles not a problem) and very very robust seems to be the Traxxas Slash 4x4.

I could not find one bad review on them. Not cheap mind ~ 350 quid was the cheapest I found it. In the end I bought a new bike instead as I knew I would lose interest after a week of playing with it.

Ni cads are very old now probably won't even be able to buy them. They got taken over by nimh which have now been taken over from lipo.

The lipo are way way way better last loads longer and the power doesn't drop off during use.

If your looking to buy a car I'd say get one off eBay. You will get a better car for your money than buying new. Electrics can be got off there to fairly cheap but buy new cells.

Good makes are Schumacher, associated good racing quality stuff or HPI are not bad more bashing about type of car. Not sure of models as I've been away from racing for a couple of years now + I'm more of a on road person.

Have a look on RC chat or I think oople is a good off road site you will get some idea of what's what

The best place to check out anything rc related is oople.com

As for what to buy, it completely depends on budget. What is your budget? I'm more familiar with the high end cars tbh. But from that perspective I'd recommend the Durango cars ie the 210 in 2wd and 410 in 4wd. This would give you a very competitive car but will cost a bit. All in for a top end bit of kit you are talking c.£1k.

Happy for you to drop me a pm if you want?

I'm looking I'd say max of £150 all in chargers radio the lot - is that possible used for a Lipo brushless used?

Associated B4 RTR (ready to run) is a good bet at just over £200 new. 2.4GHz radio and brushless.

Lipo/brushless is the way forward.

I've sort of lost interest recently but couple of cars I have built come into your budget.

Basically a good used setup of one of the simpler 2wd trucks will just about fit in your budget.

As an example, My Tamiya DF02 buggy in its current state is probably me about £200 from almost all new parts. Brushless/Lipo/2.4GHz radio and about 50mph speed. Electronics and batteries are all ebay specials. That said I've probably spent another £100 more working out how to get to a good build, and now I've stopped using it... As much as I love it I wouldn't recommend you get one if you are looking for a great cost effective basher.

RTR just saves you few quid. Generally speaking, you get the radio gear for next to nothing.

The Ansmann car us supposed to be very good for the money. A guy at our club has bought one for our outdoor season, which starts in 2 weeks. Not seen it yet.

Agreed on brushless and lipo.

If you dont buy rtr (which is the preferred way forward for budget) then you'll be looking at something like the hobbywing system on ebay. 9T will be plenty quick enough. It is unsensored and a little steppy pulling away but if you are thrashing around that wont matter. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hobbywing-eZRun-V2-Senso...

Lipo wise, ignore the expensive ones. No point at all. http://www.pit-bitz.com/product_info.php?products_... is as cheap as a Nimh and pefectly good. Like all lipo's, do not run them flat. They dont like it and will spit their dummies out.

If you go the rtr route, why not strip it down and rebild it straight from the box. At leats if gives you a chance to oil the bearings, grease diff gears etc..

Thats a good idea anyway as the RTR stuff isnt put together that well from what ive seen of cars at my club when i raced.

Or at the very least check all the important screws are tight etc.

dont think twice brushless and lipo all the way

i have retrofitted some top hardware into old rollers namely an rc10 b3 team and a losi xx4 we...these are old cars but with new electrics...

best thing is that i will get all my money back when i choose to jack it in because ive built my cars ground up using second hand stuff only...
