Just finished this White Ensign Models resin/etch/white metal kit for the Malta GB on Britmodeller. She's out of the box apart for some 3D printed gun tubs for the 20mm Oerlikons. She was the one of only two of the class,( the most famous ship of the class was HMS Kelly), to survive the war having taken part in most theatres of operations.

Lovely - as ever.

Were these ships destroyers?

Yes Eric. There were three groups/classes of this type of destroyer built during the war, all very similar which is why they are generally refered to as the J, K, N's. They only differed in weaponry, with some having two sets of torpedo tubes, whilst some, including Kimberley had their aft set of tubes replaced with a 4" high angle AA gun.

Kelly was sunk by Stukas, wasn't it. Did it have the AA kit?

Yes, the Kelly did have the modification. Unfortunately it wasn't enough.

I remember Lord Mountbatten telling the tale of the loss of Kelly.
