We've had threads like this before where one of the IKEA cabinets was recommended. This has been discontinued now and never really fulfilled what I needed.

I need a free standing unit, almost like a retail cabinet, for about 15 1/18 th scale models and some wall mounted cabinets which would take 4-6 1/18 scale. Finally, some small cases to sit on desks.

What do you have?

I got some custom made display cases from "Just Bases" (who don't just do bases - I wonder how much business they lose from the name?).

I could do with some kind of display cabinet, but never seem to find quite what I want. My office at home is in the garage roof space, so I've not got room for a tall cabinet. The rest of the house has a blanket ban on the display (or mention of) models.

I use these:

http://www.luminati.co.uk/acrylic-display-cabinet

Intended for shop cabinets but work well for models. Lots of other designs & sizes. Not cheap maybe but very well made.

I have these for 1:43 - got them from Ikea, they're mirrored bathroom cabinets, have glass shelves. Need to add some LED strip lights to them..

ignore the pink walls, room is to be re-plastered so couldnt be bothered to decorate..

they're the same dimensions as the 'billy' bookcases so doors are also available for this size.

Also would like to display some of my 1:18 scale models at some point, which currently sit in their boxes at my parents house gathering dust frown

Ideally I want to display about 6 cars, the best I've found is a vertical 6 car display cabinet for £81 on Amazon.

I'm a pretty poor person! So I'm looking for the cheapest solution for displaying them if possible?

The Ikea BESTA range of cabinets, with the glass doors (TOMBO) are what I used. Nice and deep too as I have a number of 1:12 models (XJ220 etc)

They were fine. I had wondered about that too but with the adjustment of the door hinges, I was able to get a very even seal all round.

My backup (which was never needed) would have been to apply a thin strip of black felt around the lip of the door frame for a complete seal.

Let me know if interested in them since will be moving overseas very shortly.
