This was on the local news and thought it might be of interest.

What do they mean, "in its heyday Airfix specialised in model planes, ships and tanks of World War II".

They still do - as well as lots of other subjects.

Most reprts on Airfix or similar subject matters are erroneous - no matter which media outlet is being read. I hope the Hornby/Aitfix publicity department are on to them today to set them straight.

The BBC journos are so hot on detail and checking their facts that they actually link to a squatter site, not the real auctioneer's web site. Not that many kits for sale are by Airfix anyway!

http://andersonandgarland.com/documents/Catalogue_...

Shame the kits are just listed generically, in groups of several items, with no photos.

ETA: 4am and Bored so just emailed the BBC about the link. So don't be surprised if it changes.

Airfix are lucky theirs is the generic name given to all plastic kits. A bit like Hoover and vacuum cleaners.

In the UK.

Not so much elsewhere.
