Why 'Antiques Fair's are worth enduring

Got dragged around an antiques fair today in Dedham, and was thoroughly bored. Same old same old, with the same grubby looking old-but-not-really-antique looking jewellery and knives that were apparently used by some tribe in Uganda in the 1750's, or the owners garden as a makeshift trowel who knows.
Anyway, eventually found a stall with a few models on it, and I collect 1:18s to an extent. They were all 1:18s and were all Mercedes (an R129 SL500 [the Revell], a 300SEL road car, an SSK and a 600 Grosser I believe, didn't give them much of a look), 3 Bburago and a Revell. The owner stated that they were £40 rrp and was offering them for £15.
Was just walking away when I saw another box, an AutoArt LWB Mercedes G500 (G-Wagon), also 1:18. This one didn't have a price tag but I presumed the owner would be looking for around £50.
However, apparently, he had no idea about the models and thought it was worth as much as the others, at which point I pretended I had no idea about models either and offered him a tenner, walking away with it for £12. It had been opened once, and is in a near-immaculate (if slightly yellowed) box and polystyrene protective holder.
Turned it into a more productive afternoon!
