Possibly not exactly what you want, but the Lego 8043 set builds a remote control excavator and bulldozer (one at a time). I've got this set and it is great. Not powerful enough to lift much more than a bucket full of pasta, but they are brilliant models.

If you want real stuff then Wonderland models is a good place to start. Not sure how much abuse these would take and whether they're toys or working models.

But for extra fun in the building you can't beat Lego Technic as Dr_gn suggested, the excavator, front end loader, hauler truck and mobile crane models are all in a similar scale and do most of what the real things do. The RC stuff goes through batteries like they're going out of fashion though frown

problem is finding the gear!

some of that stuff I'm seeing is £4000-8000 pounds!!!!! fooking hell!

I've heard of peeps converting bruder construction toys into RC models so maybe go down that road! be a lot cheaper!

Hows your german!

This type of modelling is really popular in germany judging by the number of youtube clips there are but it comes at a price!Wedico is more affordable just.

I recently just finished building this kit

and use this to load it

If you want "proper" construction plant equipment, it will cost upwards of 4K and the wait for delivery is a long time. You mention you're off for 6 months. Other than the RC4WD model or Wedico, don't expect it to arrive before, unless you buy 2nd hand. But as always.. be careful

If you are "serious" PM me and I will put you in contact with someone selling their plant equipment

I have bought a bruder 8x8 scania R series tipper truck

with a RC crazy friend of mine, we are going to convert it to fully functioning RC.

its the same as this one, realistic and quality german engineering in 1/16 scale!

If it works well then the next one will be a Liebherr 4 wheel bucket loader.

and then

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bruder-Toys-America-1-16...

so its a good challenge :-)
