Hi, my name is Scott and I am a closet scalextric lover.

I bought my second set today - probably 20 years since I last had one.

My first set was a Sierra Cosworth Texaco set both red and black. I still remember the smell of the controllers.

I just purchased the Escort Cosworth Rally set on ebay for a princley sum of £17.50

What else do I need to know and where can I get a huge track smile

Yes there are a few secret SCALEXTRIC fans smile

Always great fun ! Digital is a must for getting a few people racing on two lanes and there are some bargains out there on ebay for sure

Also for std track I would recommend an upgraded power supply and controllers, you would be amazed just how much smoother and faster they are !!!

I was given one for Christmas several years ago. Set it up and my kids managed to crash and break both cars. An Mitsubishi Evo and a Subaru WRX. Both high speed, leaving the tracks and straight into the skirting boards.

Whole lot has been under my bed until now but this thread has just reminded me that I have it along with an old Porsche 993 Turbo and a beautiful late 60s Camaro, still in box.

Told the kids that if they tidy their rooms, I'll set it up as it's half term and I'm tired of taking them out and losing £100 minimum each time biggrin

Right, picked this up last night. A few things. Good working order it is not!

One of the Escorts rear wheels are loose on the axle. The axle spins but the wheels do not. Will glue do?

The track is in naff condition. Nearly black. Whats the best way to clean it up?

I've the size 4 F1 set (about 10 years old) boxed up in my garage. Would really like to get it out but too afraid the HalfPints destroy it the moment it's set up.

Yesterday was a great success. Track laid out on the Lounge floor and my 3 kids are doing well. Even my 13 year old 'Whatevah!' daughter likes it.

Both the Subaru and Evo are good track cars but the Boxster beats them both. The Megane is so light that it spins, even at low speed, at the slightest corner and my ancient 993 Turbo is a pig to drive and very tail happy.

A present given to me for being a best man years ago, a '69 Chevy Camaro, has been taken out of it's display box and is proving to be a rumbling monster. No problem if there are crashed cars in it's way but it's front splitter keeps grounding going up the bridge.

thumbup To this thread. biggrin

Get some of the Super Resistant cars.

They look great but can take a lot more punishment than the normal cars.

You are not alone, the joy of having children is that you get to play with toys from yesteryear again. Scalectrix has however evolved since the 80&90’s with two new types of track in standard scale and a half scale option too.

Do not buy ‘Start’ bundles unless you plan on just sticking with a standard out of the box layout and have no desire to go digital. ‘Sport’ track is the new 32nd scale standard and is digital ready although that requires new power sections, controllers, lane changers and modifications to the cars. Sport track can be picked up fairly cheap and you can get convertors to add ‘Classic’ track to your layout too (for example if you had a classic humped back bridge that you wanted to add this would necessitate 2 classic adapters.

I went digital by buying a Porsche Boxster Challenge setup off ebay, it gave me 2 cars, 2 lane changes, 2 handsets and a powerbase that will allow the running of upto 6 cars at a time something that you cant do with a current standard digital base. Since then I have added controllers, cars and extra ‘sport’ track and can now make a fairly decent layout with bridges and loops.
