I have just been looking to see what Airfix has in store for 2013, and was pleasantly surprised to see that Humbrol have moved 60% of their production back to the UK. I knew that Airfix / Hornby had been having many problems with production in China, but it was nice to see such a traditional brand bringing work back home.

It seems that the enamel paints are being made by Rustins in Cricklewood, and the acrylics are made at an unnamed plant near Manchester. Sadly, it seems that plastic moulding is destined to stay in China. We shall see. If they continue to have problems then the shareholders may have something to say.

There is an interesting quote from the Humbrol product manager; "Our entire colour range has been reformulated and colour matched back to original Humbrol standards". Maybe that explains why the Humbrol enamel paints I have bought in recent years just don't seem to go on quite as well as I remembered.

I wonder if this good news will eventually extend to Humbrol reintroducing my favourite Authentics Ranges?

Have to say the recent Humbrol enamels I've tried are horrid things compared to the old Humbrol paints, in consistency and I also miss that wonderful Humbrol Enamels thinners aroma.

(OK I know that isn't likely to change)

They smelled lovely didn't they. I've found a couple of old tins in Dad's garage the other day, and am keeping them just to sniff...
