So, my helicopter has been sat on a bookshelf since I last crashed it and after looking for the spares I discover they seem to be discontinuing the model I have (Esky belt cp v2) so it looks like i will be buying something new when funds allow.

As I didn't have the dosh to get a heli back in the air I thought I'd dig out an old model multiplex picojet I had in my mums attic for about 12 years and move the radio and motor from the heli onto it.

So, behold! The 3800kv brushless picojet.

It took some epoxy to put the nose back on straight and I had to fashion up a new canopy as I couldn't find the old one anywhere.

It took about 3 crashes and repairs before I finally got it in the air but my god does it shift!

Having been flying helicopters for 2 years and not flown a plane in over 10years getting it launched was a mission. Helis are certainly easier to take off and it's not so do or die as throwing a plane.

It's so flipping quick I could only really bumble about on 40-50% throttle. Each time I tried to open it up to flat out it accelerated so fast I couldn't barely keep my eyes on it never mind maintain control.

Looking forward to getting it out again when the weather holds out as its certainly cheap fun and can always be fixed with epoxy and duct tape.

What's everyone else been getting up to this weekend?

I bought a little Nikko Vaporizr and it arrived yesterday. I've been out with it today and it's ace!

Not seen those before. Does it go well on water?

It's pretty damn slow on water, but still pretty cool. People kept stopping to watch it, since it's not your average RC car!

Trouble is, now I want to get a proper RC car again, so will likely splurge for a decent bit of kit some time soon!
