Getting a model commissioned

Someone my wife works with collects that Lilliput Lane stuff, and is retiring in the next year or so.

Mrs Cjelli thinks that a model of the school they work at would be a nice retirement present.

Do any firms take on this kind of work? Any recommendations?

look for architects modellers locally some are very good.
