I'd like to get into model-making and am looking for a 1/18 or 1/24 kit, possibly of an everyday uk car such as a 1970s Escort or Capri, etc, etc, or a 60s / 70s rally car.

Kit must be excellent quality as I won't want to do it otherwise. Price not important at all, I don't mind paying high price for top kit.

It's a challenging self-build kit I want, not a ready-made car.

Can anyone with experience point me in the right direction please?

Tamiya did a 1/24 of the ur-Quattro in standard spec and rally trim. They often come up on Ebay. They currently do a 1960s Mini in Monte Carlo spec http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/tamiya-12...

Money no object - where do I find absolutely top-quality challenging self-build kits?? 1/18 or larger.

My long-term plan is to make a model from carved pieces of wood, but in the meantime I'd like to do a quality scale-model. Have skills and patience.

Do a search for Tamiya 1:12 cars (plastic models):

http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/12car/... (2 pages)

Very good built out of box, and phenomenal when super detailed with aftermarket or scratch built parts. Tamiya re-release these on a regular basis so there are some not listed as current.

Then there's 'new' Pocher:

Beware the 'old' Pocher which were very tricky to build, but looked great when built by an expert.

Worth looking here for some good quality multi-media kits too:
