Airfix 2014 range shown

I do not appreciate being lied to at Telford when I asked the projected price for the Typhoon.
Rethinking buying the Tiffie now it has jumped up 10%
Why tell us one price and then only a month later revise it upwards.
Is it based on the great reception we gave it?
I think it is a daft thing to do and it might stop me and others getting the best model from a mass market producer this decade so far.
I will still be buying Airfix, but...

When the Big Mossie was launched they said that was going to be £90, it ended up at £129!!

I happen to think it'll be worth every penny myself, plus i'm sure you'll be able to get it for £90 at your local retailer...
Also just think how much it'd cost if it was a Tami-gawa kit....

I do question the morals of a company that tells lies about prices at launch when hoping to get fabulous 'value for money' reports in the press.
Why not simply tell the truth, it's not as if most of us would be Anti-Airfix by nature.
I believe the Tiffie is to be a tremendous piece of modelling engineering, the detail as moulded from the shots at Telford was awesome.
It is just the attitude of the Airfix beancounters that stinks and it may have just crept over my self imposed top level cost line. I would have found a way to buy it at £90, even though I have to 'self justify' model purchases from my pension. The extra tenner is bad news.
(my local model shop isn't in the 'discounting injection moulded kits' game, he would rather sell me parts for flying devices.)

I asked them at Telford as did hundreds, (or more) of other admirers.
And the suggested price was widely lauded in the modelling fraternity.
And I think THAT is what prompted their 'bean counters' to shoot themselves in the corporate foot.
No worries, they are bound to hit their targets, the model is amazing.

This is ture, but the Mossie was often found for under £100 in a few places after the initial run I happen to think it'll be worth every penny myself, plus i'm sure you'll be able to get it for £90 at your local retailer...

Hopefully you can get it cheaper than RRP.
However I am sure it was said they wanted to keep it under £100 if possible, and scale modelling isn't getting any cheaper.
If you want to see expensive, try warhammer kits!! That's my crack but its getting silly now.
I'll be getting the new tool Tiger Moth if it's anything like the Gladiator, but for anything with significant surface detail (i.e metal aircraft) I'll reserve judgement. IMO Airfix are in real danger of ending up with a new-tool 1:72 range of interesting, but second rate kits. Investment in sorting out their well known issues rather than churning out more of the same would be my hope.
I'm sorry but the surface detail on the current new-tool kits is easily comparible to what rivals at similar price points are achieving, e.g. Revell and Italeri. To take the step up to the toolmaking methods used by Eduard/Tamigawa which enables the very fine surface detail would involve a huge amount of extra tooling investment and much more expensive kits.
The surface detail on the new Javelin, for example, is definitely finer than the much-lauded 1/48th Lightnings and Spitfire 22/24 which many people use as a benchmark for Airfix kits.
It's like moaning at Skoda for not making 200mph supercars for £20k.
I was actually put off buying the new Tamiya 1/32 Corsair, even though the corsair is one of my favourite aircraft, as being an "average" modeller I wasn't confident that any of the super fine surface detail would still be visible on the finished model.

I'll definitely be getting the Tiffie. Those moaning about the price should take note that I bought two 1:24 Mosquitoes for less than £80. I imagine being able to buy the Tiffie for a lot less than RRP. Oh! Airfix also told me at Telford they would try to keep it under £100, which is amazing considering the amount of detail included.

Yes, tempting to off load one, but I have plans for mine so they aren't for sale.
I've got three of em! and they're going nowhere! i'm waiting to see if they mod the molds to make it into a bomber/pr variantWhat I think Airfix should do is a kit with a new forward fuselage, cockpit and bomb bay so us owners of the existing solid nose ones can
update them...
It's curious that no other aftermarket manufacturer has gone down this route, maybe it's in the works....
