'copter camera drones
Discussion
Good day All,
Hopefully the right place for this and not a question that has already been asked a thousand times.
I'm in the market for a drone able to carry a camera for professional video work, albeit on a budget.
I've done some googling but it all gets confusing quickly.
Is anyone able to recommend a decent outfit for under £1,000? Ideally this would include the drone, RC gear, camera gimbal. I'm thinking GoPro at the moment but I'd also welcome suggestions on this aspect.
Am I right in thinking that these will be pretty easy to fly?
Thanks in advance.

My experience in this field is limited to a WLtoys V959 quadcopter with camera that cost me £40!
Looks like the DJI Phantom 2 Vision is a decent option. It comes good to go with all you need. You can even use a phone to pick up a live video stream although the range won't be great as it uses wifi.
The original DJI Phantom is a lot cheaper and can take a go pro.
I'm not certain but I think the Vision model might allow you to move the camera in flight.
I'm sure there are a couple of PH members who do this professionally but can't remember their names.

Hi Trickey,
I posted on this prior, didn't get a massive response, seemed that people are too keen here on drones.
Anyway, I purchased a Dji Phantom 2 Vision and absolutely love it. Everything about it is quality; from build, applications and usability.
You can control the camera, its movement is by way of iPhone or android device. Its movement is limited though as up and down, you can not turn the camera separately from the device, but simply turning the Drone allows this.
Have a look at a video I did: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4IR0MhsTBM
Quality is 1080 hd, once play back, live feed is not hd though, but clear enough to see what you need.
It has inbuilt GPS allowing excellent hover hold and Home function if lost.
I cant recommend it enough.

T,
Its very easy, I am by no means an experience pilot. But on the 2nd flight I felt very confident about flying it, even over water.
I've played on many RC Car models and a few cheap helicopter models, you know the type, the double blade ones that have become popular last couple of years.
But overall the DJI is very easy to fly and use. Honestly I cant recommend it enough (I don't work for the company lol!) very rare if find a "gadget" that I really like.
I would say that the Vision 2 is all anyone will need, if you want to do say professional videoing, for film quality you may need to upgrade. I work in the property industry and I can say that if a survey was carried out with the Vision 2 I would be very happy with the video quality.

I'm no expert in this but have been looking at it a little recently.
This gives an idea of the requried bits for making a goPro FPV:
http://www.mongrelgear.com.au/fpv-kits/5-8ghz-fpv-...
You need a transmitter and some way of receiving the feed.
The cheapest I found the Phantom 2 vision was here:
http://www.banggood.com/DJI-Phantom2-Vision-GPS-RC...
I've used the site a couple of times for cheaper quadcopter parts and I have no complaints. I imagine you may get stung with customs fees on something this price.
It is worthwhile keeping an eye on the prices as when I looked yesterday it was £690! Must fluctuate a lot with the exchange rate.
