Some great work in this sub-forum, I love the recent thread with modified cars in the garage settings as well as the super-detailed aeroplanes.
I hope I'll be forgiven for posting this link from another motoring website:

It appears to be worth a visit if you are already in Japan.

I went to the Tamiya factory when I was in Japan and met Mr. Tamiya (he picked me up off the floor when I fell backwards down a set of stairs whilst taking pictures). I also got a guided tour of the offices and met the staff.
Loved it. Will have to dig out my pictures

Must buy the book about Tamiya by the man himself (Shunsaku Tamiya). Master Modeller.

I've got that book, read it a few times and it's just as fascinating every time I read it, learning from their very humble beginnings as a wood yard that happened to sell wooden kits to moving into plastic kits and all the trouble it entailed.Must buy the book about Tamiya by the man himself (Shunsaku Tamiya). Master Modeller.
Highly recommend it to anyone interested in model building, the only problem is now it's quite a hard book to find, or it was when I bought mine 2 years ago, I had to buy mine from a book seller in the US as it was the only one sale at the time.
