Over the summer months I want to start to build up a HexaCopter
This is going to be my first venture into RC Flying things other than the trusty Hubsan X4 everybody seems to have and love.

I want to start flying in line of sight, get used to the hex then move onto FPV as money allows

So far I have almost decided on DJI F550 Flamewheel Frame (the F450 is possible if funds get restricted)
The E300 ESCs, Motors and Props (unless something else is suggested that is better or cheaper)

That's really as far as I have got, I thought I had decided on the Naza V2 but I'm currently reading up on APM stuff and may end up with one of there FC boxes!

The FrSky Taranis Transmitter seems to be popular on some of the forums and isn't a bad price for the pair (Tx & Rx)

This is one package i've been looking at - http://www.droneshop.biz/multirotors/hexacopters/a...
This is another - http://www.fast-lad.co.uk/store/product_info.php?c...

I'll take advice ... criticism ... comments ... I'm learning as I go and would be quite happy to take your advice if anybody has any save me making mistakes!

i'm in exactly the same situation. looking at f450 quad, have the tx/rx setup you mention on order and already have the arducopter sat ready to go. just batteries and charger to decide on.

Well ... Its all changed here!!

I decided on a Tarot 680 Pro

Those are 13" Props!!

But after some chat with guys on the RC forums it was suggested the 680 was expensive to learn on

So i have bought this
http://hovertime.co/tarot-firefly-450-frame
http://www.banggood.com/Emax-Simon-Series-12A-20A-...
http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-SunnySky-X2212-K...
http://www.banggood.com/EMAX-1045-Propellers-For-E...

I will probably end up buying a Naza V2 FC and a FrSky Taranis TX & RX

The FC, TX and RX will be used on the 680 and to keep the 450 in the air I'll probably use a Chinese copy of the open source 3DR Mega Pilot and a second Taranis RX

Wow! That's a bit of a beast.

I just got my hands on a phantom 2. I liked the idea of building my own but I have no space for it just now. I'll get a kit for the next one if I feel like I need to upgrade form Phantom. Very impressed with it so far though!

To build a cheap 450 doesn't take much at all ... probably the same room as your phantom
I put the frame together on top of my keyboard last night!

Its not as expensive as you would think ... probably do the whole lot on the cheap including TX & RX for £300

No ... Its a learner, so will be LOS only

I am doing the same too.

I decided to use my existing Spektrum DX8 and other stuff, along with my go pro hero 3 black for filming.

I went for the DJI 550 and Naza V2, to keep the costs reasonable, will add other stuff when funds allow.

Only came yesterday and not had much time but here is the current state of my build:-

Be careful with your videos ... there have been a couple of people taken to task by the CAA already

CAP 722
9.1 Congested Areas
9.1.1 ANO 2009 Article 255 defines the meaning of ‘Congested Areas’. The definition states that a ‘Congested Area’ means any area in relation to a city, town or settlement which is substantially used for residential, industrial, commercial or recreational purposes. Operations of SUA within congested areas may be permitted in specific locations on the basis of a safety case and suitable operational procedures being submitted as part of an application for aerial work. Separation distances from persons, vessels, vehicles and structures (dependent on whether or not they are under the control of the Remote Pilot) must be specified in the operations manual.

(b) over or within 150 metres of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1,000 persons;
(c) within 50 metres of any vessel, vehicle or structure which is not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft; or
(d) subject to paragraphs (3) and (4), within 50 metres of any person.

Used all three warehouses .... UK, Euro and Int ... Uk comes quickest, Euro should be here tomorrow, and the International was about a week.

No issues at all!

Where is better? Is it cheaper?

Spotted one of these type of things in the middle of a busy street the other day but couldn't see the person flying it, turns out it was a builder checking the state of a roof via the camera that was fitted.
