My lad bought himself a virgin pendolino set and we've gradually added to the layout (track packs). At the moment it's a plaything rather than anything else. He has a little diesel shunter also. He plays living the life of the train, stopping at stations along the way.

Yesterday we re-designed the layout to be a mainline station (with a third track terminating). This way the game can be to live the life of the station and each train stopping is different. Now he would like to add some other modern trains to his collection. A local service and whatever else may pass through a modern-day station. Only, we're struggling to find modern trains. Not sure what we're doing wrong, do we need to search a certain class? Or can someone help us find trains from the current era. Thanks

Check out the Hornby website to see what is currently available.
www.hornby.com

Bachmann is another manufacturer.
www.bachmann.co.uk

Hattons stock a lot at good prices.
www.ehattons.com

Pick up a copy of Railway Modeller, British Railway Modeller, Model Rail or Hornby magazine, all of which carry lots of advertisers that stock what you are looking for, they also list model railway shows, some of which may be near you, these will have traders selling these products, there will also be second hand stalls where bargains can be had.

Check out www.rmweb.co.uk, loads of model railway information on the forum and a classifieds section.

The best one I have ever visited is this one...
Leave your cards at home and just go with a set amount of money. Awesome display of goodies…
bit of a trek from Bucks though.

As per above, the Bachmann stuff is very good and I think a bit more keenly priced. I have a Bachmann 20 and 37 and they are both very nice models.
I think Hattons were doing the 37 for about £50 a while ago.
I saw they had a 2 car 150 for a similar price recently

Hi, I don't know where you are in Bucks, but if you like the idea of supporting a good old local model shop, Transport Treasures in Aston Clinton is your answer. The old guy that runs the place is very knowledgeable on trains and always up for a chat about what you want and happy to order in what he doesn't carry in stock. Also very good on price for a one off shop.
Much more fun than buying off the internet.
