thinking of a play thing to share with my 5 year old to use in the garden.

these all seem similar to me, so tempted by the wild willy 2 which i remember when i was a kid (but could never afford a tamiya back then).

any advice? is a lunchbox a better bet in any way?

I haven't really got a useful reply, other than I soooo wanted a lunchbox when I was a kid.my local model shop was trains downstairs, and rc upstairs, and it was crammed with tamiya boxes. I can't remember what I had, I think it was a Red Devil, it was great, but always that step below a lunchbox.Lol.

I know the Midnight Pumpkin and the Lunchbox were on the exact same chassis, so there's no differences between them, but the jeep was either before or after my time...

Whilst we are on the subject though...

"Black editions" have come to RC...

i was also desperate for vanessas lunchbox when i was a kid! have you considered the newer tamiya cars? some do wheelies which is much more entertaining for little ones.

Brings back memories; I had a Lunchbox, I think the Willys Jeep was more advanced with oil shocks and a better motor, could be wrong though.

My first ever RC car was a Grasshopper.

I went Blackfoot, as a more stable off road platform

Wheelies are fun for a while but at some point get tiresome

I think current Wild Willy is a better chassis than Lunchbox

Thanks for the replies - where is the best place to get a Wild Willy 2, ready to run (XB?)?

Not sure the XBs are great? But I can't remember why! And so easy to build, very rewarding to do it yourself.

XB does save the painting though...

i got the impression the xb was not really more expensive?

don't mind building it, but painting always takes me ages.....

is it cheaper to buy the kit? i dont have any rc gear or chargers batteries etc.

Does bring back memories. I had a Super Champ when I was a lad! I've now got a Hot Shot and also one of the "new" Sand Scorchers. The Hot Shot is done and the Sand Scorcher is work in progress. Love working on them when I get any spare time. Bought for my 21 month old son. Obviously. Goes well alongside the Scalextric! wink

I bought a Lunchbox a couple of years ago, but if I was buying one today (on the wheelie chassis) I'd go for the Unimog.

Russy, what's your website? I'm thinking of a black edition LB too, I'm always buying rc bits and bobs.

I'd like to get a RTR car for my 8 year old daughter and as a kid I had a hornet so a tamiya will have a nostalgic element. What do people recommend budget wise £75 - £150?

The Hornet did die a horrible death though - the AA batteries that powered the servos shook loose and it headed across an A road and almost made it until it got hit by a bus cry

Bring it down with you, plenty of sandy beach and tarmac seafront to play on here!
