Putting the Victor together with some of the Lightning painted while off sick.

Thoughts are turning to winter, do you buy to build or have a stash?

Build. If I see something I want and it's a good price I'll get it, so things do build up to an extent. If I find I've got a kit that's not getting anywhere near the front of the queue I'll sell it. Model shows are full of cheap kits from people who've hoarded kits and then pegged it before building them. The other thing is that these days kits get re-released fairly regularly (your Victor being a case in point), so unless a kit is particularly rare, theres no point in investing loads of cash into a stash. The again some people (including me)just like the look of the older boxes...

I always buy to build. It's just that my build rate is glacial compared to my buy rate.

Like Eric I buy things I intend to build. I have more money than free time though...

It depends really .I've just bought a Westland Whirlwind because I believe them to be a bit rare .Same with a TSR2 .I've got 10 Red arrows Hawks but have only built 5 .I've stuff like a Lancaster that ,if built I have nowhere to put.Same with my Vulcan .I've got a Lightning 2B + pohoto etch that maybe beyond my skill level as I would like it to be approaching a DR_Gn build level. I've vowed not to buy any more as I suspect I've got so many I've not got time for .

Nowadays I buy to build. I used to have a stash of models awaiting building, but life always got in the way. It still does and so now I only buy a kit if I think I have a window of time where I think I'll be able to complete it. Doesn't always work out as I have a 7/8ths completed Victor and a just started Lightning both on the go at the moment!

You must have a big house or an aircraft hanger?

Buy to build but plan for the future. Although had an impulse buy of the revell 1/48th B1-b which is massive and don't actually have any where to put it once built.

Been years since I built a kit, but this sounds like my 'buy to read' policy for books!

Hmm

I predict that most of those are ebay fodder frown

I have a mate who buys any new kit that he sees come on the market

"I'll build them all one day, after I retire" his loft is jampacked!

He retired three or four years ago but went back to work for his old employers, "on consultation, because they are really stuck without me"

He hasnt even looked in his loft and is still buying

I did that once, but had a braynestawm and sold a whole scad of them on ebay

A few RAF post war stalwarts were not sold and are now the bulk of my endeavours

smile

And like all the other fantasists I LIE

frown

I bought three Jaguars to build the trio I just completed, at least I used up one from the mystic stash wink

(One was such junk it was unbuildable, and I usually like Matchbox kits)

And of course I will be having "one" of the new AIrfix Sea Kings

Or two

Or...

Bugger just took a look, that's probably going to cost me £50 now.

I buy to build but time makes fools etc etc.

Hoever i am looking at having a clearout, and in airfix model mag there is a place in liverpool that values your kits and will buy them from you, so may be a way to get rid of some stuff.

Aside from kits i also have a lot of miniature wargames stuff that needs painting, some for competitions, some for gaming and its just too much.

I fancy picking kits i like as nice ones to have and enjoy, rather than the odd kit that 'could' be fun.

Currently sitting:

1/48th canberra PR Airfix
1/48th f-16 UAE block with resin cockpit set - Hasegawa
1/48th B-48 Hustler - Monogram
1/32nd P-51 Mustang bubble canopy -Tamiya (aftermarket decals, really want to start this)
1/48th TSR 2 - Airfix, LOTS of resin and PE stuff for this. Will do maybe over xmas
1/48th Revel F-9 panther
1/48th Revel or Hasegawa F101 Voodoo
1/24th - Tamiya BMW Jagermesiter DTM
1/24th Tamiya Subaru BRZ
1/12th - Tamiya Ducati Pangale
1/9th Italeri MV Agusta F4
maybe couple others!
