What does everyone that doesn't belong to a club do to play/practise/drive their RC cars? I live near Bracknell and can't find a place local to me that has somewhere safe for my son and I to drive our cars.

There's a local club, with a track, but it is way too serious for us as we simply want to thrash the cars about at leisure and not compete or have to adhere to strict rules. We currently use the garden (a little limited and the grass kills the batteries quick) or the local Tesco car park when it is closed (not always ideal because of the cars and local chavs).

What sort of cars?

Our Blackfoot gets walked through the woods, limited grass, various challenges on various routes, kids get exercised and socialised as well! Grab some extra packs of cells and you're off!

What about The Lookout? Good few years since I've been, but there must be a fair bit of space to play there?

Is a great idea but usually full of skaters and the like who don't really like sharing the love and with all those jumps and so on it's only a matter of time before some serious 'new parts please' accidents occur.

They are Lancia Integrales based on the Tamiya platform. Four wheel drive so can handle (semi) off road surface but going in the woods I think is a non-starter on a whole bunch of levels!

Tried this but no good! Too many cars and the surface is too rough so the cars either beach or have little traction.

Ideally I'd want either a semi-paved area or something with loose gravel/dirt etc.

Easy! Any section of the M3 central reservation from the A303 to the M25 with the exception of the six miles between Hook and Fleet. Mostly loose gravel or broken Tarmac and not a worker or works vehicle in sight......

try the commons area out the back of blackbushe airfield?

this spot is quite good:
51°19'39.6"N 0°50'20.2"W

access it from Vigo Lane, parking in the layby you can see on google "satellite" view opposite the entrance to the industrial estate.

Edited to say... I had great fun running my Tamiya Neo-Fighter at the skate park in Chesham park on sunday. Until one too many jumps from the top of the half-pike landing flat in the bottom (so 5-6' vertical drop) caused the gearbox to crack where the motor mounts so the motor came loose.

I think I need to stiffen the suspension a bit (as bottoms out far too easily) and probably not try and jump it over quite such a drop!
