I'm looking to print some decals for a project I'm working on. I'm after recommendations for decal paper, there are hundreds of brands out there at all different prices. I'll be printing a two colour logo.

The only one I've tried is Expert's Choice, it works very well though.

It's available as clear film or white. Remember that most printers can't print white. smile

Not sure what make RedFirecracker uses, but all the decals he has done for me have been great. I've even cut and sprayed the off-cuts from his clear paper to make my own line/stripe decals. Works very well. Worth a PM perhaps?

I import (or used to) mine from decalpaper.com as they do blue backed paper which is handy if you're printing white. Obviously, the price only makes sense if you're buying quite a bit.

One thing that I was always wary about was shelf life, as it does degrade over time. Just make sure that you get the right one for your printer, as laser and inkjet paper is different.

My advice would be eBay or Craftycomputerpaper if you're just after a single sheet.

I have used this stuff, also comes on clear sheets. Print on design and then coat with a varnish once ink has dried.

Do you seal the printed decals? If so, what do you use?

Yes, you do need to seal them otherwise the print will float away in the water (unless they've been printed on an ALPS printer). Most clear coats can be used, such as car rattle can clear, but I tend to use Johnsons Klear.

A good modelling varnish also works. I have used Humbrol gloss varnish with good results, 1 or 2 coats is fine.

I've used Tamiya Matt or Satin varnish to seal mine two or three misted on coats allowed to dry between mistings

This stops the new decals folding up in the water as well as sealing in the inkjet inks

I've also used Microscale Liquid Decal Film which is a mighty expensive way to do it frown

And I've had good service from Craftycomputerpaper and Hannants

CCP seem a little less expensive and had better stocks that HH last time I needed some

Thanks for all the replies just picked up now as been away. I've ordered a couple of the suggestions above and I'll see how they look.
