As title?

When I was young my dad had a Tamiya Beetle and Boomerang. We both loved building/tinkering and driving the cars together but they eventually got thrown away when they were too battered. Fast forward 20 years and the mrs bought me a re-release Beetle for Christmas. I was properly chuffed to get that out of the blue, but was really taken aback by how emotional my dad got looking through the kit and reminiscing. I've decided to try and track down a boomerang for him for his birthday. Ideally I'd like to get him a re-release kit so he can build from scratch, but if I can't find one I'll buy a second hand car then buy a load of bits to refresh it. I know the Boomerang got re-released in 2008ish, does anyone know where might have any stock remaining?

Cheers
Andy

Always a good supply of used cars and new parts on eBay smile

Yeah cheers. As I said though, ideally I want to buy a re-release kit so he can build it from scratch. Refurbishing a used kit is a back up plan.

To be honest I don't like your chances. I was looking before christmas for old sckool Tamiya Buggy's, and I found plenty of Hot Shot's, a few Gold Hot Shot's, Super Hotshots and even an Egress, but didn't see any boomerangs. The Super Hotshots have since gone out of stock in a couple of places.

I have a feeling Tamiya also released the BigWig (but maybe that was just a rumor?) but I didn't see any of those listed anywhere either.

However, if you are going to use it as a runner and not a shelf queen, I might be tempted to get a more modern buggy. For Christmas I got a Super Hotshot and my Son got a more modern Tamiya buggy. As of this moment I've only run mine for about 2 minutes, This is in part due to my stupidity, but I've also had a few issues with chocolate screw heads and stripped threads in the plastic chassis components. The newer kits seem much better designed and more robust, which is exactly what everyone told me on the forums before I bought the re re hehe And while spares are cheap postage soon adds up.

By contrast my Son's Dark Impact must have run for 5 or 6 hours, has been flawless and handles great.

Just going to be a waiting game I'm afraid, but they do come up. Register at Tamiyaclub (I don't think it costs money to register and email responses to classifieds, could be wrong). It's also worth having a look at the iconic rc Facebook page, together with their separate iconic rc sales/wanted pages. A boomerang swapped hands only this week, but I've no idea of the money that was involved.

I came across a store listing these, but the website was quite poor so without actually contacting them you cannot tell if they have physical stock or if the website has not been updated in the past 10 years.

The store's called Dolphin Fishing, Shooting, Boats & RC Cars, their website is www.dolphin-discount.co.uk.

Edited to add: I don't know why that link doesn't work (but it does if you google them)

It looks like they did a rere in 2008 you may get lucky and find one abroad, the US and Japan are good hunting grounds for obscure Tamiya gear.

I note you can still buy parts for them and shells/stickers, it may be there is a different model sharing most of the running gear that you can buy basically a conversion kit to turn it in to a Boomerang, may be worth looking in to.

I'd suggest checking out the bigger German retailers. Tamico.de don't have one at the moment but they do appear to have ALL the separate parts sprues, body, stickers and chassis available.

EDIT: Deleted the website I asked about as I reckon it's 'dodgy' after doing some digging!

Probably why it had such good stock at such low prices!

I've got a re re - that I have never quite finished.

Had one when younger and drove it too destruction so bought the boomer and hotshot when they were out, finished both the shells and stickers them up, built the gearboxes for both then boxed them up and never finished them!

Good luck with your search

Thanks for the responses chaps. I'd found the dolphin discount site already and given them a call, sounded like they hadn't updated their site in years. Thanks for the other suggestions though, will take a look.

Cheers
