Probably a basic question, but after about 2 years of not being used our son's Scalextric won't work. I've just had one of the cars going, but unless driven flat-out it stops and won't restart. Two of the cars seem to have given up the ghost entirely.

The set was a very basic one. Is it a throw away and start again job? Or has the lack of use resulted in some sort of corrosion / high resistance situation?

Many thanks for any guidance.

Couple of suggestions;
Track: Make a small 'test circuit' potentially the smallest oval you can make then test whether the cars work.
Track: Leave track as is and check all the joins between each piece of track
Cars: Braids all good? Are the connections between the braids and the connectors good?
Transformer: Is the switch set to the appropriate for running both lanes? i think this is 16v not the 16v/16v setting which is one lane

Good luck, I hope this isn't a throw away and start again options.

Thank you, I will try these things.

As a kid I bought lots of secondhand track, and would find that some of the joints in the track were a bit iffy. To fix this I used to slip small pieces of kitchen foil in the joint, when pushing it togeather which seemed to work most of the time.
