Ok so technically they are toys not models, but they are almost model quality...but I, sorry, my son, has got quite into these German made Bruder toys.

He’s only two, but for any parent getting dragged off to “go play”, driving a chuffing big CAT excavator is loads more fun than pushing Thomas around a wooden oval track. Most of it is 1:16 so pretty big too.

He got given the John Deere tractor, and since then I’ve been keeping an eye out for second hand stuff. It’s not as tough as Tonka, as it’s plastic, but it’s very detailed with lots of working features. As a Land Rover man myself, the Defender (the only one I bought new) is a work of art...opening doors, bonnet, proper swing axles and an additonal roof mounted steering wheel. My lad is only 2, but in a few weeks he’s gone from dragging stuff around, to proper “driving” around obstacles etc, 3 point turns, the lot!

Anyone else into Bruder? I think quite a few people have actually converted them to r/c but that’s a step too far for now.

My sister has bought a couple of pieces (tractor and land rover + horse box) for my daughter.

Agreed - I think they’re great.

Can you get some battenburgs and a mini '4x4 response' sticker for the defender?
