High street shops, anywhere in UK?

I know the days are probably sadly gone, but is anyone aware of any walk-in shops that stock 1/43, 1/18 etc?

Apart from online, I only ever see them in the metal (or plastic) at race meetings when there are some stands set up.

Would love to be able to just walk into a shop and have a browse.

There's Chester Model Centre, in the place where Model Zone used to be on Bridge Street. I tend to only look upstairs at the model railway stuff when I go, but I recall some die-cast stuff and kits downstairs.

Thanks everyone, a few suggestions there.

Cars really, I’m a sucker for Ebbro/Spark/Autoart. I did try Chester a few months back, but it’s 80% trains and planes. Nice little place though, reminded me of the old F1 shop on the rows about 20 years ago.

Hobbycraft (national chain) usually have a small selection of models but an excellent range of modelling tools, accessories and paints.

Varies massively from shop to shop. Their stuff tends to be at the high end of price ranges but useful if you run out of paint or glue.

Setchfields in Poole High Street. I've been a customer for my whole life and they're one of the very few decent shops left in Poole.

I was buying Airfix kits there in the late 60’s, great to know that it has bucked the trend and survived.

However, as any Cardiffian will tell you, THE model shop in the city was Bud Morgan’s in Castle Arcade. The teenaged Bud lost a lower arm in a tram accident but went on to run a superbly stocked model shop. Despite his disability he was an accomplished modeller and photographer.

By my reckoning I had a choice of 10 + model shops in the Cardiff area come the mid 70s - including 4 in the City Centre. In the suburbs/surrounding villages there were good quality shops in Llanishen,Whitchurch (x2), Sully, Roath, Rhiwbina & Penarth Road.

I guess Lendons is the only survivor. The first to bite the dust was “The Model Shop” in Mill Lane - an essential for me as it stocked the big Tamiya kits. It became a sex shop (or so I’m told).
