was wandering if micro car kits for tamiya exist ie hotshot fox grass hopper etc?

Tamiya coffee can models? Theres a few on ebay and they are pretty small

They did a range of monster trucks (clod buster, lunchbox, midnight pumpkin etc.) as roughly 1/32 AA battery powered kits. Lots of fun in the garden making obstacle courses for them to race over. Think they were called mini4wd. Can’t say I’ve seen them in a uk shop for a while but I expect they can be found online.

Mini 4wd is still very much a thing - massive in Japan. When I visited last year this was upstairs at the Tokyo Tamiya shop.

Yes, the Mini 4wd cars have some classic RC versions, I've got a Thunder Dragon and a Lunch Box, original Clod Buster one somewhere from when I was a kid, too.

Another option is this in 1:24 scale. It is an assembly kit micro version of the Tamiya Lunchbox:
