Hi all,

I was wondering if any one knows of a scale model of a ferrari 312 67/68 F1 car? I have had a look on ebay and can only find 1/43rd scale diecast pre-built stuff ideally I would like something a bit bigger to build.

You should be able to find some 1/43 scale white metal or resin kits. 1/43 is by far and away THE scale for model cars.

That era of racing car is not well served by the more mainstream kit builders such as Tamiya, Hasegawa etc.

There's this 1:12 scale at about £450 + postage from USA:

BUT - don't expect anyting like Tamiya ease of building. I have experience of this type of multi-media car kit, and they are a LOT of work compared with 'the usuals'.

I tried one of these:

http://www.revivalinternational.com/template.php?p...

Looks great in the box: Metal body, real wire wheels, photo-etch, rubber, brass, white metal, nuts and bolts, working steering and suspension etc etc.

Absolute total nightmare to build. Virtually nothing fitted (including the pre-painted body panels). It's one of the few models that nearly went in the bin (despite the cost). Looks fantastic in a glass case now though.

It does look great. However its a far bit out of my price range for this as I want something to use to scale up and that's it.

Depending on what you want to do regarding scaling it, have you thought of looking for a CAD model, rather than a physical model?

Hiroboy does a '68 version, in 3 flavours: normal, short nose and wing;

http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?pr...

He also does another '68/'69 kit;

The first link is £189.99, the second £199.99. They are lovely kits.

do you know where a cad model could be found? as I was planing on creating a cad modle.

Well, someone's obviously done one (or at least something very similar):

Whether you could get hold of the CAD model itself is a different matter.

Good Luck!

This looks like the one from Grand Prix Legends - the greatest PC racing game ever. In 2004 they did a new version called, funnily enough, GPL2004; it can be downloaded free and there is a whole online community devoted to enhancements such as different circuits and cars.

GPL2004 Demo can be downloaded from here:

http://www.gamershell.com/download_6101.shtml

Only exists as a demo, with one circuit, Watkins Glen. The other circuits in the original game were Kyalami, Mexico, Monaco, Monza, Mosport, Nurburgring, Rouen, Silverstone, Spa and Zandvoort. All these and others (I have Le Mans, Brands Hatch, Fuji, Hockenheim, Castle Coombe, Mallory Park, Oulton Park, Tripoli, Laguna Seca, Goodwood, Crystal Palace, Avus, Aintree, Bathurst, Reims, Thruxton, Monza with banking and dozens more) can be downloaded from the GPL Tracks Database here:

http://gpltd.bcsims.com/

You can also download graphical upgrades to the ten original tracks (2004 has already done Watkins Glen for you).

Have fun!!

Just out of interest - why would you need a cad model? Are you planning on rapid prototyping your own scale model? Or a 1:1?!!

You can download free plans of the 66, 67 & 68 cars in 1/32 scale from this site which consists of reprints of contemporary articles in Model Car magazine.
